WHO is Teaching the IntroDS Course?

Department Offering IntroDS Course

Faculty are teaching IntroDS courses out of a variety of departments. As can be seen below, 26% of the IntroDS courses are taught in a data science department*.

Departments offering Introductory Data Science Courses
*Departments names were assigned via a hierarchy with DS at the top, followed by Stat and CS, then Math. Thus, departments that included data science and any other field, as well as departments that included BOTH statistics and computer science in their names, were labeled "Data Science". Departments labeled as "Statistics" or "CS" might have included other disciplines (except for the "Data Science", "Statistics" or "CS"). Thus, a "Department of Mathematics and Statistics" would be listed as "Statistics".  Departments listed as "Math" included neither statistics nor computer science in their name.

Professional Identity

19% of instructors consider DS as their primary professional identity. However, 54% of instructors consider DS as either their primary OR secondary professional identity. For example, someone may consider their primary professional identity as a statistician, but DS as their secondary professional identity; this individual would be part of the 54%.

Professional Identity
Faculty were asked to select their professional identities, and assign them to either a primary, secondary, or tertiary level.  The same hierarchy as above was used, and adjustments were made if multiple selections to primary (or other) identity was chosen.
